We knocked on the door of the off-campus apartment, as it opened we were confronted with the heavy stench of alcohol. A puppyish girl was passed out on the living room floor, a chew of empty beer cans filled the kitchen sink, and the deafening music rattled the window panes. A group of girls man seasond to stumble past us. They waved goodbye to the host, who was handing drinks to me and my sister. It was not my first cartridge holder drinking. In fact, everyone there was quite experienced after all, its college. fractional of the guests were completely drunk, and I had no problem with it. That is, until later that night when my sister locked herself in a room with a guy she had met only a week before. This prompted me to seriously consider the effects of alcohol. These questions, along with the vivid mem ory of that night, fueled my examination of the labyrinthian social problem of under progress drinking. In 1861, conflicts and tensity between the northern and southern join States erupted into the Civil state of war, the bloodiest war in American history. Economic differences existed between the north and south, which made the Civil War inevitable. The souths economy was largely agriculturally based and dependent on knuckle down labor, while the north was much industrial and based on poerty-stricken labor. The issue of slavery is often cited as the main set about of the Civil War, but it is truly the economic dependency of the South on slavery that caused the Civil War. Slavery being the backbone of the South conduct to conflict on whether or not states should be admitted as free or slave states, which could potentially tip the balance of free states vs slave states representation in the Senate. The North and South being so radically different in economy and culture created conflict between them. Their differences actually made the Civil War an inevitable event, because as t he saying goes, United we stand, divided we fall.      The questions of what exactly experience, virtue and the soul are, are among the most important problems of school of thought The soul may be defined as the ultimate inside principle by which we think, feel, and exist. The mysteries of birth and death, the lapse of sensible life during sleep, even the most common operations of imagination and memory, which rise a man from his bodily presence even while arouse all such facts suggest the existence of some involvement other. The quest to put a solid definition on what exactly association and virtue was the footing of Socrates life. Socrates discusses these things all the time but they seemed to be better explained in two specific dialogues The Meno and The Republic.     In the Meno, Plato justifies the possibility for ones mind to uncover knowledge. Plato presents a well-grounded th eory on how our minds can obtain knowledge. Socrates asks What is virtue? , when questioning Meno on the single definition of virtue, Socrates was never satisfied. He never accepted Menos answers because Meno gave virtuous definitions, non the definition of virtue. For example, Meno claimed, A mans virtue, consists of being able to sway public affairs and in so doing to benefit his friends and harm his enemies and to be careful no harm comes to himself." Meno does not know what virtue rightfully is, so he cannot apply which characteristics associate with virtue and which do not. So when Socrates asks, Does anyone know what a part of virtue is, without knowing the whole?, Meno agrees this is not possible. This presents a logical argument against Menos definition of virtue. Socrates believes the conversation to pursuit for what virtue really is should continue although they achieved no success in their prototypical effort to form a definition. Meno questions Socrates, And how will you inquire, into that of which you are totally stupid? What sort of thing, among those things which you know not, will you put forth as the target area of your seeking? And even if you should chance upon it, how will you ever know that it is the thing which you not know?. Socrates explores the subject that one not only obtains knowledge through perception but can also obtain knowledge through reason and hard work. Socrates then tells Meno of the theory of recollection.

Charles demon (1812-1870) is one of the greatest and roughly popular writers in the history of literature. In his novels, daimon combines masterly storytelling, humor, pathos, and irony with sharp social criticism and groovy observation of people and places, both real and imagined. On February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, England, Charles Dickens was born to John and Elizabeth Dickens. Charles was the second of eight children. He spent most of his childhood in London, the setting for many of his novels. He lived in a middle-classed family that, but his father was incapable of managing his own finances. Dickens started school at the age of nine, but his education was interrupted when his father was imprisoned for debt in 1824. He was then forced to work at Warrens Blacking Factory, a shoe-polish factory, to support himself. His experiences of trying to survive in the slums of England pursue him all of his liveliness, and he would later devote many of his books to the retelling of hi s experiences. Dickens was save from this situation when his father was released from prison. From 1825 to 1827, Dickens again attended school for devil years of formal schooling at Wellington House honorary society in Hamstead. For the most part, however, he was self-educated. In 1827, demon took a transaction as a legal clerk. By 1829, he had become a free-lance newsperson at Doctors Commons Courts. He had become a very successful shorthand reporter of parliamentary debates in the House of Commons and began work as a reporter for a newspaper, in 1832. During his time as a reporter he would develop his skills to write very detailed and factual-like stories.In 1833, Dickens create his first of a series of original descriptive sketches of daily life in London. By 1834, he and adopted the pseudonym Boz. His Sketches by Boz was promulgated in 1836. During that year he would marry Catherine Hogarth on April 2, 1836.In 1836, Charles dickens published his first novel The Posthumous document of the Pickwick Club. The success of the Pickwick Papers made him famous. At the same time it influenced the publishing industry in Great Britain, being issued in an unusual form, that of inexpensive monthly installments that would set out in literary magazines.
